What a weekend.
Saturday just started off bad. Gracie rolled up into our room at 6 AM, ready for cereal and when I told her to "lay down for a little bit, Mommy and Daddy are still sleeping," all hell broke loose. She cried and fussed and by 6:30, had her 1st punishment. By 7:30, she had her 2nd punishment. We decided that we had to run all of our errands in the morning before everyone's naptime and when we didn't make it back home in time for said naptime, the pattern of misbehaving and crankiness continued.
Yesterday, we stayed close to home and strictly adhered to the schedule. Pancake breakfast, morning swim, story and naptime on Gracie's new bed, lawn mowing, etc. Aside from Gracie's fire ant bites, it was a much better day.
Now, today, we just can't wait for vacation. We're going to Austin on Friday for the 4th and will be at a wedding on the 5th and then on the 6th, we + my mom, Kyle, Mark and Michelle will be going to New Braunsfels for 3 days!!! We'll take Gracie to Schlitterbahn. That will be my first time back there since my last day of work some 16 years ago (give or take a year.)
One day we woke up and had a clan. That's what twins will do for you. Some days we want to pull our hair out, others we're glad that it's not so gray, but every one of them is humbling reminder of the joy of life. This is a glimpse into our wonderful adventure.

Personalities
Gracie is strong-willed, imaginative and active. She's very kind most of the time. She will have lots of admirers.
Max is fun and talkative, but the little man is needy. Nothing bad with wanting attention, especially from his mom. He will have lots of friends.
Nick is mellow and sweet and will be a big cuddlebug. He can keep himself occupied for long stretches of time. He will not demand the attention Max will. He will have a small group of friends. Probably for life.
Our children are such a blessing. We love who they are and will do our best to always draw the best out of them. We will try to teach them what is right and to stay true to themselves, no matter what that is.
They are all three awesome.

Date night
Steph and I had date night on Saturday night. Ah, it was very nice. We went to this cool burger joint in 'Uptown' Dallas. We had never been in that area before. It reminded us of spots in the Village in New York.
We had a nice, relaxing dinner outside on the patio. Uninterupted. Right by T.O. Steph wanted to say something to him. I wouldn't let her.
During dinner, Steph saw one of her friends and we went for drinks with her and her date afterwards. Again, it was nice to be around another couple sans kids.
10:00 came and we started turning into pumpkins. When we got home, the babysitter was very disappointed that we didn't stay out until 1. We both laughed at her.
We sat inside after everyone left and just talked.
It was much-needed time together where we could just enjoy each other without any distractions. And it worked.

Gracie's first day of school

Gracie's first day of school today!!!!
It was Mother's Day Out at a Methodist Church in Garland. Our neighbors, the Schwarty's, take their kids (Jackson and Katy) there and after we talked to them, we explored the option a little bit more. When we found out more about it, we signed her up.
She goes every Tuesday and Thursday and she gets to be with 2 of her friends.
She played very well today. She couldn't stop talking about Jackson (they are in the same class). She made a coral picture during arts and crafts. She took her very own lunchbox (The Lion King).
She is such a big girl. We are very proud of her. And scared.

Joys of parenthood
So, my big issue is poop. More specifically, Gracie's poop. I can handle baby poop, spit-up, incremental crying and the very little lack of sleep that comes my way. I cannot handle kid poop. Kid poop = adult poop and that is something that is very, very hard for me to deal with. It's particularly problematic right now as we're trying to potty train Gracie. She doesn't quite get 'let us know BEFORE you have to go so we can do it in the potty.' I won't get into what she does, but it's not that. And it is my least favorite thing to do as a parent.
But I just talked to Steph and guess what she's had to deal with, this her first Monday of a full week of full-time house mommy? Multiple crying kids, more than incremental crying. Gracie demanding her attention all the time. Feeding more than our 1, 5, 9 schedule. Making lunch. Thinking about dinner. I could really go on. I'm sure there's more that's been very difficult for her to deal with today.
And listen to me and poop. I almost feel foolish for writing it. But at least it's out there now, you know what I really don't enjoy dealing with. Ah, the joys of parenthood.

The Stovalls
We spent the better part of the afternoon with Miker, Roxy & Chloe. It was such a nice time. Everything is so easy with them. I mean, we have been doing this together for about 13 years. Is my math right? If it isn't, it's still a LONG time. And me and Miker go back to high school which, although hard to write, was over 15 years ago. Jeez.
Chloe and Gracie were so happy to see each other. After the initial excitement died down, they really didn't know how to play with each other. They're just too different in age right now, but give Chloe another 6 months or so and like Miker said, 'we'll just let you loose in a padded room together and won't see you for awhile.'
The boys were good with everything, too. I haven't really paid attention to the way they act around non-family members, but with Miker and Roxy, they were completely relaxed. They even let both of them hold them.
We didn't do much of anything. Just hung out. Pretty much like we've always done.
We couldn't help but daydream that when they're ready to buy a house, they would get one close to us and today would be so typical of any Saturday afternoon. If you're reading this Stovalls, we've scouted many options out here and there's more than one with your name on it. :)

Last day of school
Today is Steph's last day of school. Well, the kids' last day at school. Technically, tomorrow is her last day of school.
No more school for her for a very long time. At least 365 days.
Boys are good. Gracie is good. We got her a swingset/playset for the back yard. Actually, YiaYia and Papou got it for her. My dad helped me set it up. I'll show pictures when I take some. She loves it.
Work has been such a drain for me lately.
Max actually played with me this morning. He smiled at what I was doing. That means he can see. I didn't doubt it, but it's good to see that development. I know Nick can see. He just stares at the ceiling fan.
